Hikers can not always trust the trail descriptions and stories
Here be dragons

Hiking is big business in many places and for hikers it can sometimes be hard to tell how much is true and how much is just part of some writer’s or local tourist office’s imagination
In the old days map-makers used to write “here be dragons” ( Wikipedia link ) on the maps to make explorers aware that they were approaching the edge of reality.
Maybe it is a bit the same with some of the trail descriptions of today…
