Bridges can be among the most remembered places on the trail
Text and concept sketch by Frits Ahlefeldt. Hiking.org
In our understandings of landscapes bridges often stands out as something special. It is a crossing, a moving often connected to passing from one part or phase, and to the next.
In stories the bridge often symbolize a passing from one world to the next, and it is like we are almost hard-wired to remember these places. They are both important in wayfinding, as a place to celebrate, to rest, to photograph and to contemplate. Crossing the bridge can be special.
How the bridges are placed and designed can make a huge difference to the experience and with an eye on how to make the bridge become a special place, there are good chances that the bridge can make the whole hiking experience more memorable.
Drawing is part of hiking.org research of ways to design, build and maintain hiking trails
